MARS Multicast Conferencing (Push To Talk)
Multicast conferencing is a rapidly-growing area of use lately. Audio, video and other media such as shared whiteboard data can be efficiently distributed between groups of conference participants using multicast algorithms that minimize the amount of traffic sent over the network. This is far more effective than systems that maintain a separate link between each participant.
MARS Multicast Conferencing facilitates push to talk two way conferencing through the multicast ports of the routers. Designated users can initiate conferences through the services button of their Cisco IP Phones, which allows for selecting of multicast group and initiating the Conference. Developed with existing technologies the set of conferencing clients can send and receive voice data once connected after successful key exchanging. The application manages the multicast group as well as automates the rekeying when a user leaves the group. Administrators can create conference, users and groups from the MARS Administration console along with the other standard administration functions.

IP Phone Applications for Real Estate
In this discussion I would like to focus and invite comments on the use of IP Telephony in the Real Estate domain. Real Estate is a far reaching domain which is traditionally slow in adapting to technologies, but once any technology proves its worth it is rewarded handsomely. The real challenge in this sector is overcoming the initial apprehension about cost involved. Traditionally this is an area where the builders want to preserve there profit margins and the buyers are mostly very price sensitive. Added to this the various other aspects of running the buildings once they are completed.
There are various solutions and products based on affordable technologies from Cisco and other technology vendors which are increasing catering to the need of this domain and will continue to do so. In this article I will be talking mostly about how a few pre build IP Phone applications will make life easier for all involved in a building.
I have uploaded a presentation of how a few MARS products will help in mitigating the cost aspect of the operation as well as smoothen a few other areas. These applications cater to the Security, Information, Communication, Utility and Revenue aspects amongst them. For example the Visitor Verification Application. Now a day most of the apartments/condos come fitted with an extension phone as well as a video surveillance box, which are mostly wall mounted. With MARS both of these are combined to a single devise, ensuring smooth functioning, less maintenance overhead and cost savings.
Utility complaint and logging is an application which streamlines and automates the facility management part. People do not have to speak with some one at the management office to lodge a regular complaint. It gives a pre populated list to select and generates a complaint number. Through this number the progress can be either tracked through the IP phone, an IVR or a web page. Large townships, multilingual workers hostels, project sites are greatly benefited by this application. On the facility manager end all the complaints registered through this mode are already categorized into various groups depending on the nature of the complaint. He can now go ahead and assign the tasks to different competent teams; i.e. plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc.
Another great application is the messaging application combined with the payment gateway. This acts like an intimation to pay and facilitates payment by connecting to a secure site through the IP phone. Reducing administrative cost is directly translated to efficient running of the buildings. Common facilities and there booking/reservations can be done from the IP Phone itself. Once done a confirmation is obtained and a ticket generated.
There are limitless possibilities when you have an IP PBX and end points which support applications or services. It is not about taking a pre developed product and set it into solving some problems. It is about developing components and bundling them together in a solution perspective. That solution than becomes custom made for that particular problem set and has the potential to completely satisfy end users.

Important Numbers on Phone Off-Hook
How many times I have to look for a number which I dial frequently but could not remember. Yes, there are the personal directory and corporate directory which helps me in finding out these contact details and many more, but for that I have to go through a few clicks and put in the search string. There are other day to day usage applications that are also of help like Outlook etc.
Will it be great if I have the option of setting the 5 most important numbers on my phone off hook? When I pick up the phone to dial a number it will show me the important frequently dialed numbers. I choose one of them and click dial. Will not that be an important feature to have in your Cisco IP Phones?
